The Hall of Nations in New Delhi (1972), engineered by Mahendra Raj for the Asia 72 trade fair, was the world's first space frame built in reinforced concrete and the largest in span when built; it was demolished in 2017. The Asian Games Village (1982), built for the athletes of that year's games in Delhi, arranges its housing around a hierarchy of courtyards. The State Trading Corporation Building (1989), built from 1976, joins ideas from Japanese Metabolism with Mughal tradition: its structurally expressive frame of Vierendeel trusses is clad in polychrome sandstone instead of bare concrete.
