Populous is an American architecture firm, based in Kansas City, Missouri, that designs stadiums, arenas, convention centres and major events. It began in 1983 as a sports group of eight architects within the firm HOK, later called HOK Sport, merged with the London and Brisbane practice LOBB Partnership in 1998, and became independent through a management buyout in 2009 under its present name. In the 1990s, starting with Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, it led a new era of "retro" ballparks drawing on each city's history and older classic grounds.
