Nikken Sekkei is a Japanese architecture and engineering practice that traces its origins to 1900, when it began as the building department of the Sumitomo company to design the firm's headquarters. It became independent in the 1950s, has been owned partly by its own employees since 1970, and by 2019 ranked as the second-largest architectural practice in the world. Its long list of works includes Tokyo Tower (1958) and Tokyo Dome (1988).

Kobe Port Tower (1963), 108 metres high, is shaped like a tsuzumi, a Japanese hand drum, and was the first tower built of a steel pipe lattice. The Shinjuku NS Building in Tokyo (1982) and the Cairo Opera House (1988) followed. Nikken Sekkei was the main architect of Tokyo Skytree (2012), a 634-metre broadcasting tower that on completion was the tallest tower in the world. One Za'abeel in Dubai (2023) continues its work on very tall buildings. Nikken Sekkei's projects are studied for how a large practice joins architecture and structural engineering on very big and very tall buildings.
